How to get started
Getting started with Code Compare is quick and effortless — choose the method that works best for you.
Download the installer from the Devart website and launch it. The setup wizard will guide you through each step of the installation process. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation quickly and easily.

Or install directly from Microsoft Visual Studio 2026. Go to Extensions → Manage Extensions, search for Code Compare, and click Install. After a quick restart, the tool will be fully integrated into your development environment.

How to invoke Code Compare from Visual Studio
Option 1: File menu
- In Visual Studio, go to File.
- Select New.
- Choose Code Comparison.
Option 2: Tools menu
- In Visual Studio, go to Tools.
- Select Code Compare.
- Click New Code Comparison.
From Solution Explorer
- In Solution Explorer, right-click the file you want to compare.
- Select Compare Selected File.
From an open editor tab
- Open the file in the editor.
- Right-click the file’s document tab.
- Select Compare Current File.
What happens next
Code Compare opens the comparison view. Select the second file (or target), then run the comparison.
