dbForge Hits a New Milestone With 2025.2!

A new milestone is achieved with the release of dbForge 2025.2! This time, it brings you enhancements in dbForge AI Assistant, long-awaited user interface improvements, and further significant advancements across dbForge tools for SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB, Oracle, PostgreSQL.

Interested in learning more? Let’s get started!

What’s in the box?

Enhanced dbForge AI Assistant

AI-powered dbForge tools have entered a new era of intelligent database development. We’ve received great feedback from our users, and it motivates us to keep improving. The Assistant has proved to be an indispensable tool that streamlines everyday database tasks such as writing and fixing queries. It also provides you with useful tips on optimizing query performance and the code itself.

Certainly, the journey doesn’t stop here! We are pushing AI-powered development even further. Ready to dive deep?

Real-time analysis of errors: The Assistant now automatically scans errors from the Error List window and provides smart suggestions on how to fix them – all in a matter of seconds.

Web search and response streaming: Before sending a prompt, you can now enable web search to make sure the AI Assistant is connected to the internet and returns relevant results rather than relies on pre-trained knowledge only. Besides, the Assistant now responds in a live typing style. No more waiting for the full answer, as you start seeing it immediately.

The examples are shown using dbForge Studio for SQL Server, but they apply equally to other AI-powered tools.

Support for new servers and clouds

Cloud solutions are becoming increasingly common, with more and more services migrating to cloud environments. That’s why cloud compatibility is a top priority across all dbForge products. Let’s quickly go over what has already been done. There’s still a way to go!

Microsoft Fabric support: dbForge tools for SQL Server have received support for Microsoft Fabric, a cloud analytical platform by Microsoft designed to unify all stages of work with data – from storage and processing to visualization and analysis – within a single environment.

Azure SQL support: We continue expanding Azure SQL support in dbForge tools. As part of this effort, we have implemented support for the following syntax constructs:

  • Partition functions
  • Partition schemes
  • Partition tables
  • Partition columns
  • Partition indexes

Enhanced connectivity: We know what makes our users elated, especially those using dbForge tools for MySQL and MariaDB – in particular, dbForge Studio for MySQL. And there’s no doubt: it’s the long-awaited support for MySQL 9.4 and MariaDB 12. Guess what? We’ve made it a reality!

UI/UX improvements

It’s no secret that most of us prefer working in a graphical user interface rather than from the command line. That’s why we constantly focus on enhancing user experience in our applications, making them more convenient and intuitive to use. Here are a few UI/UX improvements implemented in all dbForge Studios, as well as dbForge Edge.

Automatic data type selection: From now on, the appropriate data type is automatically selected for a column based on its name. For instance, when you create a new column, the data type is set to VARCHAR by default. When you enter the column name, the tool uses smart heuristics to detect keywords and apply the most suitable data type. For example, a column containing the word DATE (such as str_date, date-str, MIME_Date, or srt date str) is automatically mapped to the DATE type.

Useful tooltips in the SQL document tab: We’ve added tooltips to give you quick and easy access to essential details such as the connection and database names, document owner, full file path, and the server version you’re working on. All data is in one place. Sounds great, doesn’t it?

Flexible tab positioning: Now you have full control over how new tabs open. Simply navigate to Tools > Options > Environments > Tabs and Windows and choose your preferred option from the Insert new tabs drop-down list: before or after the active tab, at the beginning, or at the end of the open group of tabs. Customize your workspace just the way you like it!

Flexible tab positioning

New shortcuts: We have implemented new shortcut combinations to help you operate more efficiently. From now on, you can move the selected lines up or down by pressing Alt+Up or Alt+Down, respectively. Please note that if no lines are selected, the shortcut will move the current line instead.

We did not stop there. We have also added support for the Ctrl+Shift+A shortcut, which selects the entire statement, including all statement-related keywords, operators, and values. Say goodbye to manual selection of statements.

Alias refactoring: In dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL, you can now rename aliases used in your SQL statements with a single action. And that’s not all. All references to any given alias are updated automatically, ensuring consistency throughout your query.

Other improvements

We continually enhance our applications to deliver greater performance, usability, and innovation.

Modifiers for the JSON datatype: dbForge for Oracle now supports modifiers for the JSON datatype. They allow you to query, extract, update, or manipulate JSON data stored in columns. The functionality is available in both Schema Compare and the syntax check feature.

Full support for OPENROWSET: In dbForge tools for SQL Server, support for the OPENROWSET function has been added, enabling you to query external data sources directly within your SQL code. Additionally, when entering the function, a suggestion will be displayed to guide you through its parameters.

Reinforced security: We have enhanced authentication capabilities when working with SQL Server through Entra ID. No need to say that security is the backbone of modern development.

Enhanced encryption: We keep pace with modern security standards to ensure your sensitive data is safeguarded by stronger protection.

Suggestion for BEGIN ATOMIC WITH: In dbForge for SQL Server, as you type the BEGIN ATOMIC WITH statement and proceed to the LANGUAGE keyword, a helpful suggestion appears showing the list of available languages for selection.

Updated qualification options: We have expanded the advanced settings for Query Builder with the following options:

  • Qualify column name using table alias: Prefix column names with their alias names.
  • Qualify column name without table alias: Prefix column names with their table names.
